Announcement | March 4, 2024
Dear Esteemed Colleague,
After an extensive grassroots movement among the Hungarian folk dance and music community in North America, we are proud to announce the formation of the Hungarian Folklife Association (HFA) – in Hungarian, the Magyar Néptánc és Népzenei Szövetség.
The HFA is formally registered as a non-profit corporation in the State of Maryland. Revitalizing the longstanding activities of the American Hungarian Folklore Centrum established by Kálmán and Judith Magyar in 1975, the HFA seeks to create collaboration, coordination and support among folklife organizations and individuals through professional development, programming, resources and technology. It also acts as a conduit between Hungarian folklife activities in the global diaspora (beginning with the United States and Canada) and Carpathian Basin-based organizations.
Moving forward, the HFA hopes to work with you to advance Hungarian folklife initiatives globally. The HFA is well-positioned to act as consultant or sponsor for various transnational programs/tours, diasporal programs, internships/fellowships and professional development.
We look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Kálman Magyar, Jr
